For Week 37 of my 52 Weeks project, I headed out to the Santa Cruz coastline with a new set of filters in my bag. In particular, I wanted to test and learn to use the Lee Big Stopper (10 stop ND), and the Lee .9 GND Soft (3 stops).

After a day of walking around Santa Cruz proper, I drove up the coast a bit to the small town (if you'll even call it that) of Davenport. I got a hunch as I passed that a photo was waiting for me nearby, so I swerved off the road, parked the car, and walked towards the sea.

Next thing I know, I've found a stunning, secluded cove. The paths in are littered with broken glass, the waves are huge, and the cliffs were steep. The sea had even carved out a cave into the rock face, which you can see here.

I'm really starting to like these filters! Using the 10 stop ND to shoot long exposures at any time of day gives me a ton of flexibility, even if the system is time-consuming when it comes to setting up a shot.
